Dit familiedrama is een deel uit de zesdelige serie telefilms, speelfilms die speciaal voor de publieke omroep zijn geproduceerd. Het verhaal bestrijkt een weekend uit het leven van de tiener Suzy ten Cate in Amsterdam-Zuid, anno 1967. De verhoudingen binnen haar familie zijn nogal vreemd en de sfeer benauwend. Suzy's werkloze vader heeft te veel belangstelling voor haar seksualiteit en haar onverschillige moeder neust nieuwsgierig rond in het privéleven van haar kinderen. Terwijl ieder gezinslid op zijn eigen manier het hoofd boven water probeert te houden, vlucht Suzy weg in een fantasiewereld die werkelijkheid wordt als zij een ontmoeting forceert met de legendarische popsterren Mick Jagger en Marianne Faithfull op hun hotelkamer. Niemand gelooft haar avontuur en Suzy bekijkt haar familie opeens met hele andere ogen. Suzy Q is gebaseerd op scenarioschrijfster Frouke Fokkema's eigen ervaring toen zij een ontmoeting had met de popidolen in de zestiger jaren.
