Since former TV host Sylvana Simons speaks out against racism as a black politician, a part of the Dutch public loathes her and she has become a plaything in a social force field.
One moment in the daily talkshow DWDD, when Martin Simek labelled boat refugees as 'darkeys', caused TV host Sylvana Simons to make a transfer to politics. With her party BIJ1, she fights against racism and for equal rights and opportunities. She draws from her own experience as a black woman and does not mince words. This elicits some quite fierce reactions: every day, Simons receives hate mails and death threats. The documentary follows her during her campaign for a seat on the Amsterdam city council.
