Interactive web documentary, including twelve captivating stories by 'hands-on’ experts on Islamic State, from refugees to ex-fighters, from children to stay-behinds.

Interactive web documentaries tell stories that use the qualities of the internet to involve the public as much as possible. Sequence, rhythm and progress can be determined by the individual viewer, giving them an active role. In Echoes of IS #wesharethescars, we follow twelve gripping stories by people who have all been affected by Islamic State, and who share their life-changing experiences with the world for (often) the first time. They have very different backgrounds: refugees and Dutch people, parents, children, ex-fighters and stay-behinds. Their stories are quite poignant.

With this project, Submarine Channel wants to open up debate and dialogue. A first impulse is given in the thirteenth portrait, a first introduction in the form of a group conversation between six characters from the film. As far as their backgrounds go, they are sometimes diametrically opposed. Furthermore, eight shorter one-minute films were produced for social media, in which 'ordinary' people share their opinion on the issue.
