Pro- and anti-Stalinists duke it out in this investigative documentary about the continuing attraction Stalin’s communism has on today’s Russian population.
Is Stalin a hero who led the Soviet Union to victory? Or can he be held responsible for the millions of casualties who fell under his regime? More than fifty years after Joseph Stalin’s death, the inhabitants of today’s Russia are still deeply divided about the memories of the past. Filmmaker Jessica Gorter introduces both supporters and critics of Stalin, to show how dissatisfaction with the present can stir nostalgia for even the most traumatic moments in the past.
