Transmedia projects have different parallel forms of expression that jointly form the narrative world. In the case of The Migrant, the maker used audio, video, text, photography and spoken word, and the project reached the public in the form of a radio documentary, a web documentary, a book and a performance.
The migrant is the remarkable life story of a bird, in which broader themes like the difficult relationship between man and animal, the consequences of rapid urban development and the position of the unwanted stranger come together. In Singapore in 2012, photographer Anaïs López first met Javan Mynah, a little black singing bird. It turns out that since its introduction in Singapore early 20th century this bird has fallen from grace and by now is actively exterminated. Anaïs López takes you on a unique trip that moves on the dividing line between fact and fiction: the story has the form of a fable, but the events are based on facts. The script was partly constructed on the basis of articles that Anaïs found in the archives of the national Singaporean newspaper The Straits Times and interviews with experts.
