NFF introduces new Golden Calf for Hair & Make-up Design

From the upcoming edition of the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) and onward, a new Golden Calf will be awarded. The new award will be for the discipline Hair & Make-up Design. The award presentation of the Golden Calf for Best Hair & Make-up Design in feature films will take place during the EY Golden Calf Gala on Friday October 3rd. Also new this year is that the Golden Calf for Best Long Documentary will now not only be awarded to the director, but also to the producer. With these two additions, the number of Golden Calves awarded will be 25!

ACM Film Professionals, the association of Art, Costume and Hair & Make-up on the new Golden Calf: ‘We are delighted to receive this recognition for the Hair and Make-up department. The Golden Calf for Best Hair & Make-up Design will make a positive contribution to the quality of the profession, the connection with other departments and be an inspiration for new generations of Hair & Make-up artists.’

Golden Calfs 

The nominations and winners of the Golden Calf awards for feature film and long documentary are chosen by the members of the Dutch Academy For Film (DAFF). For the selection of the jury awards, the Golden Calves for short film, short documentary, drama series and digital culture, the names of the jury members will be announced later.

Expansion Calves over the years

Every year, the Golden Calf Competition is re-evaluated with the audiovisual industry, including with a survey that all DAFF members can fill in. From 2020 onwards, several adjustments and innovations have taken place in the Golden Calf Competition. In 2020, the Golden Calf for Best Costume Design was introduced. A year later, in 2021, there were innovations with a single Golden Calf for Best Lead Actor and Best Supporting Actor for Feature Film and Drama Series, because of the merging of the Best Actor and Best Actress categories. The Golden Calf for Best Lead Role Short Film also made its appearance. Last year, the Drama Series section was expanded with new Golden Calfs for Best Director Drama Series and Best Screenplay Drama Series and there was also the addition of the Audience Documentary Golden Calf.
