Via Dolorosa

During an annual religious ritual in Malaga, a group of men carry heavy platforms containing statues of saints through the streets. The Via Dolorosa, or Way of Sorrows, they traverse refers to Jesus Christ’s Road to Calvary. For his impression, the documentary filmmaker chose a special form that is almost exclusively made up of close-ups. The expectant buzz beforehand, the signal to lift, the joint effort under the heavy burden, and the harmonic undulation of the faces - all this slowly builds up to a meditative experience.
