In an interview with Frank Scheffer, the American avant-garde composer John Cage talks about the commission given to him by Japan to write a new opera. He expounds his idea to ‘build up and break down’ Marchel Duchamp’s last work of art, Étant donné, for this. He already has a title, too: Noh-Opera. However, the opera was never realised.
