In the build-up to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Sochi was quickly transformed from a nostalgic Soviet health resort into a modern Russian city. Entrepreneurs, activists, immigrants and the Russian authorities performed their functions as in a ruthless game of chess, with president Vladimir Putin as the king that gives way to nothing and nobody. The documentary demonstrates how financial, economic, political and ecological borders were transgressed for a prestige project that Putin seemed to have totally lost control of.
