Mesmerising and alienating drama about female seduction sees a girl from the fashionable Amsterdam-South quarter grow obsessed with a gorgeous Arabic girl from the poor parts of Amsterdam-East. They mainly meet in a women’s sauna, a place where nudity stands for equality. For one summer, the two play an emotional game of love, temptation and attraction. Like its source of inspiration, Roland Barthes’ A Lover’s Discourse, the film is compiled from fragments. All communication is non-verbal.
