Midnight Frontier

Director: Peter van Langen, Iris-sanne van der Aar
Documentary about LGBTQ+ people in Georgia. How do activists here cope with homophobia? What is the role of the church and the government? And what does nightclub Bassiani mean to them?
On 17 May 2013, on the International Day against Homophobia, thousands of Georgians, whipped up by the Georgian-Orthodox Church, attacked some fifty gay rights activists. In this documentary, they tell about their brutal experiences and the dominant role of the church and the government. Nightclub Bassiani is their port of refuge, a beacon of freedom. It is their fort of resistance against homophobic aggression.
