In Cambodia, lawyers Michiel Pestman and Victor Koppe defend Nuon Chea, tried for mass murder under the Khmer Rouge regime. How will they do this without renouncing their ideals?

In 2011, the two lawyers Michiel Pestman and Victor Koppe travel to Cambodia to defend Nuon Chea. Chea, also known as 'Brother no.2', was the second man behind Pol Pot. He is tried for crimes against humanity. For four years, the documentary follows Pestman and Koppe in their attempts to give the former ideologist of the Khmer Rouge a fair trial. The UN-supported tribunal is weighed down with unlawful government intervention and corruption. The case should have been the two lawyers’ crowning achievement, but things turn out differently.
