De tweeling

Director: Ben Sombogaart
Adaptation of Tessa de Loo's bestseller. Spoken in Dutch and German, this feature film follows the lives of twin sisters Lotte and Anna, who after their parents' death in the early 20th century are cruelly separated. Lotte ends up in the well-to-do milieu of her aunt in the Netherlands. She manages to study and receives piano and singing lessons. She falls in love with Jewish David. Anna on the other hand stays in Germany. She grows up on her uncle's farm, unloved and without the permission to attend school. She finds love with a young SS officer. During the war years, the twins make contact again, but this is broken again when they find out how the war has alienated them from each other. Decades later, in a health resort in Spa, the then aged Anna tries to be reunited with the stubborn Lotte one last time. De tweeling was awarded a Platinum Film.
