After the death of her loving German grandfather, Janina Pigaht discovers to her dismay that he was a convinced member of the SS during WW II. Based on diaries, short films he shot and photo albums, she investigates his war past and poses her parents questions she never asked before. Pigaht struggles with the thought that she puts her grandpa in a poor light, but the urge to break the silence is too strong.
