Portrait of South-African Ahmed Kathrada (1929), who dedicated himself for years to the non-violent freedom struggle, but was incarcerated with Mandela. Kathrada was only released after 25 years.
Ahmed Kathrada (1929) was born in South-Africa as the son of Indian immigrants. For years, he dedicated himself to the struggle for freedom, without using violence. In 1964, he and Nelson Mandela were sentenced to life imprisonment. He was released in 1989. The film tells Kathrada’s exceptional life story, partly based on his own story looking back and the letters he wrote at the time on Robben Island.
