Muang Ngoi, well hidden in the impenetrable Laos interior, does not occupy a prominent place in the Lonely Planet yet. But since a decade, the village with its seven hundred inhabitants has been discovered by Western backpackers. In their wake, roads and electricity arrived. While the backpackers long for virgin experiences, the villagers dream of prosperity and progress. The camera does not take sides, but is firmly on the villagers’ side and registers how two different worlds and cultures influence each other, willy-nilly.
