Alicia (9) is unfortunate. In a children’s home she yearns for affection, but she is also quite defiant. While she threatens to go off the rails, youth care impotently moves her from one institution to the next.
One year after birth, Alicia was taken away from her teenage mother and put into custody. At age four, she went from foster family to children’s home. Five years later, she is still waiting for new foster parents. This observing, but deeply committed portrait focuses on the experiences of this clever, defiant and vulnerable child. Someone explains to her why she has to wait for new parents for so long. "You are a very special girl." Tough cookie Alicia bursts out crying. "No", she counters, "I’m not special, I’m just a girl." It is a universal theme: our craving for love.
