A grim look at cultural differences and prejudices. Doe Belgian Gilbert feel true love for his African girlfriends, or do other motives play a part as well?
The Belgian former paratrooper Gilbert seems happy in Kenya. He enjoys the weather and the booze and praises the local beauties: "Once you go black, you always go black." His girlfriends think Gilbert is a big-hearted man who treats them better than the local men. Still, something is brewing. Gilbert struggles with a war trauma and drinks too much. What are his real motives? Prejudice and cultural differences also stand in the way. This brings to light, tragicomically but above all painfully, how problematic the relationship between Gilbert and the sprightly African women really is.
