Thriller about shady mafia practices and passionate love on the West-Frisian Island of Texel. Monique van de Ven's feature directing debut is an adaptation of a Jan Wolkers novella.
Adaptation of a Jan Wolkers novella, which was his last book before his demise in 2007. After acting in over 25 films, the first one of which was also a Wolkers adaptation, Monique van de Ven makes her feature directing debut with this thriller. Photographer Bob loses his girlfriend Jara in a terrorist attack in Afghanistan. Disillusioned, he quits his job as a war reporter and switches to nature photography. More than a year later, he is on the West-Frisian island of Texel to do a photo shoot. On the beach he meets Kathleen, a gorgeous history student who works in the local disco. It soon turns out that she is involved in shady practices of unsavoury mafia characters. Inconspicuously, Bob tries to follow her. Is she also in love with him? Is this true love or a nightmare? His perspective as a photographer produces numerous freeze frames in a film that, vintage Wolkers, does not shun nude scenes. Awarded a Golden Film in 2008.
