Henk van Alen, technical draughtsman and hatter, is a descendant of William van Alen, the architect of the Chrysler Building in New York. In the latter’s spirit, Henk wants to give Rotterdam a historical landmark.
Henk van Alen has an insignificant job at a firm of architects and assists his wife, a hatter. He and his son are in training for the New York marathon. This city boasts the Chrysler Building, designed by William van Alen. As s descendant of this architect, who didn’t design anything else since, Henk wants to give Rotterdam a landmark of stature. In the spirit of the 1930s, he tries to convince the building inspectors.
