Traditional Dutch costumes are only worn in daily life in a few places in the Netherlands now. In Staphorst and Bunschoten-Spakenburg, most ladies can be found in this attire; in Marken, Scheveningen, Urk, Volendam and on Walcheren, only a few dozen remain. This documentary portrays twelve women who have no other clothes except traditional costumes. Though often considered living monuments, none of them would voluntarily switch to ‘civilian clothes’. An ode to a vanishing Dutch tradition.
