On 12 June 2013, in the state penitentiary of Huntsville, Texas, preparations are underway for execution #499. With a clock ticking in the background, the documentary shows how the people involved spend the moments leading up to the death penalty of Elroy Chester, convicted for rape and murder. The relatives of the victims and the prisoner, the guards in the towers, the ministers, the few journalists, the handful of demonstrators; everyone has their own way of killing the last few hours. Where one yearns for closure, for the other a painful farewell is imminent.
