Yara, a 24-year-old Syrian artist, has been in the Netherlands for four months. She is waiting for her asylum procedure to start. In Damascus, she witnessed how the war gradually took over life. The oppression got so serious that ‘art also ceased to exist’. The only thing left to do was flee. Waiting for a residence permit, she is painting in a studio in Amsterdam now.
