De zaak Tuitjenhorn

Director: Sarah Vos
GP Nico Tromp’s suicide and his widow’s fight for rehabilitation drew a lot of attention. A painful tragedy that brings to light the culture of fear surrounding acute care for the dying.
In 2013, family doctor Nico Tromp deviates from the directives and provides palliative care for a dying cancer patient. When his intern reports it to the Health Care Inspectorate, the Public Prosecutor charges him with murder without a fair hearing. Shortly thereafter, he puts an end to his life. Director Sarah Vos followed his widow Anneke Tromp for three years during her battle against the Dutch State. A tragic story unfolds that calls for a renewed ethical, social and political debate about the vulnerable position of general practitioners operating in the grey area of acute palliative care for the dying.
