Working in her father's Turkish supermarket, recent graduate Zehra clashes with outspoken customer Pelin. When she discovers that Pelin is also Turkish, it gives her a new perspective on her life.
After studying musicology, Zehra struggles to find a job. To earn money, she returns to her father's Turkish supermarket in Amsterdam. Boxed in among mountains of products, she grows increasingly estranged from the outside world. The debut Çürük (Turkish for 'rotten') subtly shows how the clash between personal ambitions, family loyalty and societal norms can gradually bring someone's life to a standstill. Fortunately, there's Pelin, a young Turkish woman who challenges Zehra.
