John Fernhout

John Fernhout (1913-1986), son of the famous painter Charlie Toorop, received his film training in Paris and Berlin. He worked as a cameraman with his master Joris Ivens, collaborating for instance on the latter's Spanish Earth. From 1938, he settled in the United States, where he made films under the name of Ferno. From 1938 till 1987 he lived in the USA, where he directed his own films under the name Ferno. His film Sky over Holland won a prize at Cannes.
