Het Social Sorting Experiment

Steye Hallema - 2019 - 45 min.

Social media events, but this time for real. Innovative live event, in which you - and all other people present – are digitally quantified in real time.

This absurdist (public) performance addresses the manipulative power of social media. Via The Social Sorting Experiment, creator Steye Hallema wants to encourage visitors to become more aware of this (and get to know themselves a bit better). In this innovative, immersive live symphony, the participant’s data are measured and assessed. In the process, the experiment shows the consequences of our behaviour on social media. The desired result is that after this you can no longer be manipulated; and that you made some nice analogue friends along the way. From the makers of the acclaimed Smartphone Orchestra, which was a sensation at NFF two years ago.

The Social Sorting Experiment premièred at IDFA DocLab, reaped international fame at SXSW, the Flipside Festival Singapore and Sheffield Doc Fest, and was also featured at De Parade.
