The mixed media project Weightless Bricks Act II: Collaboration speculates on future roles of freelancing and remote working, in which home and the workplace become one. It demonstrates how the design of interactive virtual environments can expand the perception of your body. Two participants share a virtual garden, with two real objects. Thanks to tracking software, participants can pick up these traceable objects with their own hands: one the watering can, for example, and the other the rake. Participants are invited to communicate with each other, whether in reality they are next to each other or miles apart. Collectively, virtual gardening offers satisfaction and comfort, but the real effect of your actions on the wider world remains hidden and out of reach, as you do yourself. This work is part of Weightless Bricks & Other Stories About the Future of Virtual Workspace, an ongoing research-driven design project.
