Short documentary about your average tomcat that sits by the door of a hospital every day. He is a remarkable companion, providing comfort to visitors and patients.
A cat sits next to the revolving door of a hospital. Quite your average tomcat. ‘He sits there every day, he’s a regular customer’, a man says, leaving the building. To people visiting their sick loved ones or patients catching a breath of fresh air or smoking a cigarette on one of the benches by the door, this remarkable tomcat is pleasant and comforting company. ‘He’s a kind of mascot to me’, a woman explains while lighting a cigarette, ‘When he’s around, I feel fine.’ The cat, that occasionally lets people stroke him, seems unflappable. He just sits there, observes his surroundings and wags his tail now and then. For this short documentary, Brand installed herself on the animal’s favourite spot and introduces regular visitors, who talk about illness, life, saying goodbye and being aware of what you have. Nine lives, seen through a cat’s eyes.
