Inspiring documentary explores the ‘damaged art’ phenomenon on the basis of an incident in which artist Bas van Wieringen’s work was accidentally repainted in 2017.
In 2017, conceptual artist Bas van Wieringen reached the national press when a museum employee accidentally repainted his minimalist painting Portrait of the nail behind the canvas. This incident motivated a documentary exploration of the 'damaged art' phenomenon. What is the definition of (modern) art? Does an artwork cease to exist in a different form? In passing, we are introduced to the playful oeuvre of the ingenious Bas van Wieringen, who drew his own inspiration from the mishap.
