Verboden vlucht

Director: Hester Overmars
In 1983, Thomas and Gundula Anhalt and their two young children try to flee the GDR with a self-constructed plane. However, the family is caught red-handed, arrested and imprisoned. Looking straight into the camera, the family members individually look back on the events that determined the rest of their lives. Sometimes, a split screen shows two people simultaneously or the story is illustrated by archive footage. How did the fluked escape bid affect their mutual bond? Was their dream of a life of freedom eventually realised?
