Visual testament of the young director who lost his father, with whom he no longer associated. A profound emotional search, not only to better understand his dad, but also to know what that is: being a good father.
Sammy Shefa Idris’ graduation film is an autobiographical documentary in which the maker tries to get a grip on his father’s death. In an ambitious blend of fiction and documentary, he wants to see his father, with whom he had broken up, with new eyes. He uses for example archive footage of his father, who was originally Sudanese, and films a men’s therapy group discussing father relationships. There, the men look compassionately at their parent who, as is clear from the title, in the end are sons too.
