Looking for the creative sparkle, young artist Nova gets entangled in an underground culture where people can order traumatic experiences with an app. Will she find the ultimate trauma in the grimy underbelly of Rotterdam?
There is an app for everything – even for people who did not have a difficult childhood or experience other types of misery in the past. For the 27-year-old Nova, ‘Sano’, an illegal app delivering traumatic experiences on demand, seems to bring relief now her career is in a creative deadlock. The app does appear to fulfil its promise, and Nova ends up in a world unknown to her, where perversities and extreme violence have been normalised. At first Nova is shocked, but at the same time she feels irresistibly attracted to this dark phenomenon and carries it further step after step.
