The Long Season

Director: Leonard Retel Helmrich
Intimate, insightful and impressive glimpse of the everyday life of Syrian refugees, shot in the course of eighteen months in a Lebanese encampment.
It starts with a bus from Syria bringing deliveries and news. Gas and eggs for one family, messages about the home front for the other. The tidings are rarely glad, but life in this Lebanese encampment goes on. In one family, marriages are arranged, in the other divorces are considered. Some boys look for a job, others take lessons in an improvised school. Seemingly without restrictions, the camera (with Leonard Retel Helmrich’s distinct signature) moves across the settlement to catch snippets of life as it is lived here.
