Poignant, poetical documentary in which dramatist Eric de Vroedt works on his most personal play so far, a marathon performance about the complex relationship he had with his Indonesian mother.
After his Indonesian mother Patricia’s death in 2020, stage director, playwright and artistic leader of the Nationale Theater Eric de Vroedt decided to create a touching marathon play about their strenuous relationship. This equally poignant and poetical documentary looks behind the scenes at the creative process behind this imposing drama: De eeuw van mijn moeder. How much freedom does he have? How important is the truth? Will his play be a tribute, a settlement or a farewell – or a combination thereof?
