In this pursuit drama with a striking soundtrack, director Pieter Kuijpers examines the volatile mind-set of a man who is detained during Her Majesty's Pleasure (tbs). Johan van der S. (Theo Maassen) is sentenced to life detention on the long-stay ward of a clinic. Unable to resign himself to this verdict, he escapes to look for his mother. She can testify that he is not guilty of the sex murder of his little sister and that he only killed his father to protect his sister. Soon, police are hot on his heels, so Johan takes thirteen-year-old Tessa (Lisa Smit) hostage. Together, they drive to Belgium. Johan leaves a trace of brute violence - shown afterwards each time - meanwhile doing his sincere best to be sweet to the vulnerable adolescent girl. Because the film consistently shows the story from Johan's perspective, the spectator, too, hovers between compassion and fear for this sinister man.
