Documentary about the inventor of photojournalism, who counts all the greats of the twentieth century among his acquaintances.
Stefan Lorant is the inventor of photojournalism. Born in 1901 in Budapest, he was the maker of fourteen films in twenties Germany and editor of many magazines before he quarrelled with Hitler. He wrote a bestseller about it in England, where he was founder of famous magazines like Picture Post. He used it to help get Churchill elected, but that didn't prevent him being deported as an undesirable alien. Since then he has lived and worked in America. It is as if all the greats of the twentieth century are among his acquaintances. The 96-year-old makes it clear in the documentary that Paul Cohen made about him that he is not worn out. He doesn't shirk at taking over directing when he feels it is necessary.
