Radio Benin Gansé, reporting from a rural area in Benin about the problems of small farmers, is an example of the media revolution taking place in this African country.
When an important meeting is called near Banikoara about the lack of raw materials for local farmers, Radio Benin Gansé is present to report on it and interrogate the flocking crowd. The local radio station in a rural area is an example of the media revolution that takes place in the African country and contributes substantially to the process of democratisation. On mopeds, the reporters traverse the area to make current affairs items about the problems of the small farmer. Whether they address problems in the agricultural sector, healthcare, the power supply or credit applications, the rural population gets a voice. People can also contact the station when a few sheep have gone astray or a daughter has been kidnapped. Using equipment from the year dot, things are kept going, reports prepared and new reporters instructed about independent radio journalism. With the hand-cranked generator rattling continuously in the background.
