Oogverblindend

A young woman in a house in downtown Amsterdam, afraid to participate in life outside. From her window, she spies on the difficult lives other people lead. Then the phone rings. A man from Argentina has accidentally dialled her number. An intense conversation between the two lonely souls evolves. He longs for a better life as well, and says it also has consequences if you don’t do anything about other people’s misery. Despite the physical distance, their connection deepens. During their long talk, the tragic life outside the door goes on. Sometimes clear, at other times vague, or in odd frames. Now and then, little happens on screen. The water calmly ripples in the canal, while the conversation grows ever more passionate. Other scenes consist of long silences in the call, which by the way reveals more and more, and makes viewers contemplate their own life choices. Featuring Rutger Hauer and Georgina Verbaan, the latter of whom previously played this role in the eponymous stage version.
