WW II is knocking on the door, but Piet Mondrian is indecisive about leaving for the US. In an interplay of layout, lines and rhythm, Mondrian’s musings and historic events shifta between fore- and background.
While Piet Mondrian is losing himself in his abstract compositions in 1937, World War II is casting its shadow ahead. Mondrian is aware of the imminent danger, but he keeps postponing his intended departure for New York to work on his paintings. Zwier, who previously also chose an original angle (Metamorphosis), completely bases the voice-over of this archive film on the letters Mondrian wrote to American artist and friend Harry Holtzman. In an interplay of layout, lines and rhythm, Mondrian’s musings and historic events constantly compete for priority.
This film is English spoken and will be screened without subtitles.
