Documentary composition of fragments from old nitrate films about the former Dutch East Indies. The film looks at the way in which the Netherlands ran its colonies in the period 1912 - 1933, how it was regarded as a colonial business enterprise and how the balance of power was at the time. The footage was mainly shot for propaganda purposes and reflects the colonial mentality at that time and show the European overseers, missionary or governor always dressed in white tropical garb. The footage was shot without sound and a sound track has been added of natural sounds, Indonesian music and poetry. Awarded a Golden Calf for Best Full-length Documentary in 1995.
