At a time when he scored his biggest chart successes, the American soul singer Donny Hathaway was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. This did not stop him from making music. This documentary searches for the soul of this soul legend. Via a poetical trip through St. Louis, Chicago and New York City, we delve ever deeper into his life, which he ended at the age of 33. Besides his brother and sisters, the film introduces singer Roberta Flack, reverend Jesse Jackson and producer James Mtume, talking about the singer’s genius and insanity.
