Intimate portrait of the celebrated musical star Pia Douwes. When performing at the top begins to take its toll, she takes stock and wonders how she wants to reorganise her life.
For more than thirty years, Pia Douwes roamed the world like a kind of nomad for musical productions and plays in the Netherlands, Europe and the United States. The much-vaunted artist often played women who, like herself, had to fight to be there. Westermann followed her for a few years from up close and also incorporated footage from the archive of Pia's father. Even in her most vulnerable moments, Pia allows access to the camera: when she is temporarily forced to stop. In looking to the future, the care for her now seriously ill parents also plays a part. 'I don’t want to survive anymore. I want to be able to have a good life.' The title refers to the musical Elisabeth, which brought her great success.
