Film essay about D.O.P. Robby Müller (1940-2018), who with his extraordinary sense of colour depth, innovative lighting methods and continuous search for simplicity inspired many.
The pioneering Dutch director of photography Robby Müller knew better than anyone how to play with the sun and capture the rays like butterflies. In his hands, the camera turned into a musical instrument that made everybody dance and illuminated the world. For her film essay, Claire Pijman was allowed access to Müller’s personal archive: thousands of Hi8 video diaries, personal photographs and Polaroids Müller made during his career, while shooting with masters such as Wim Wenders, Jim Jarmusch and Lars von Trier.
