This cinematic and poetical arabesque is a joint effort by poet Remco Campert, musician Tom America and filmmaker Leonard Retel Helmrich. Using a single-shot camera technique, Retel Helmrich presents a documentary translation of Campert’s playful literary reconciliation with death in his poem Licht van mijn leven. The verses also seem to be an ode to the city of Amsterdam, atmospherically sustained by America’s music.
