Kurai Kurai - Verhalen met de wind

Documentary filmmaker Marjoleine Boonstra’s feature debut is set on the arid steppe of Kirgizie. Here, uprooted plants, so-called tumbleweeds that at first glance seem withered, roll across the plains. In poetic images - betraying Boonstra’s background as a photographer - the stories are told that the tumbling shrubs pick up from all corners of the country. Stories about the lives of ordinary people, about unusual resilience and about how nothing is what it seems.
