Under the name Kriterion, students in Amsterdam run two movie theatres and a service station. What has the ‘Kriterion approach’ stirred up in the students’ minds and hearts since 1945?
1945 was the year of birth of Kriterion, run by Amsterdam students and now consisting of two movie theatres, a club, restaurant, child-minding service and service station. The students do everything themselves and bear responsibility in a horizontal structure without any bosses or managers. This documentary shows how this works in practice and incorporates archive footage to dive into the history of Kriterion. We also see how the ‘Kriterion approach’ has been copied in other places such as Sarajevo and Kosovo.
