Childhood sweethearts Hans and Margje Sievez lead a happy family life with their nursery garden. But when preacher Jozef Mieras stirs up Hans’ memories of his strictly religious upbringing, Hans has a profoundly religious experience that convinces him he has been in direct contact with God. He increasingly falls under the spell of religion and wanders away from his family and from reality. Margje can only stand by and watch her beloved lose himself in his quest for eternal life.
