Jouw vloer is mijn hemel

Director: Bo Dekker
A quiet force of solidarity lies behind the simple act of greeting one’s neighbors and knowing who lives next door. In a time when we seem more disconnected from one another than ever before, this observational documentary invites you to be curious about the people around you.
Through photographic images of windows and fragments of anonymized voices, this documentary tells a story about connecting with the people around you. As you observe the windows and the homes’ inhabitants, you become a quiet passer-by of the lives shown on screen. The observing and searching movements of the camera are complemented by saxophone music of a fictional street musician, who gently guides you as you wander through streets, neighborhoods, and city blocks. While some people close their curtains to shut the world out, others allow us a glimpse into their lives as they sit down for dinner. One window follows another, creating a fragmented story about neighbors, a sense of connection, empathy, and our daily lives, suggesting that perhaps we should reach out to one another a bit more often. Because what happens when we do take that first step toward the other person, even if all we have in common is the fact that we live in the same building or on the same street?
