Personal documentary in which Ananta Khemradj examines why she and other young Suriname people know hardly anything about their country’s recent, turbulent past.
When journalist Ananta Khemradj asks her mother why she rarely talked with her about what happened in Suriname in the tumultuous 1980s, the latter says she does not want to be reminded of the era. And that Ananta has to examine it for herself. So this is what she does. She takes her camera and travels to Suriname, where she finds out that members of her peer group know little about their history as well. Meanwhile, elderly people are not too keen to discuss the topic. But, she wonders in this personal film, does it help the Suriname society to sweep things under the carpet?
